1986.

This very brief article covers some technical and economic aspects of Subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) cultivation on wastelands. Its main value is the projected profitability of Subabul plantations when harvested after four years and from subsequent coppice crops. Projected annual net income per hectare was more than double if the wood were to be marketed partly as poles and partly as fuelwood and pulp rather than exclusively as fuelwood. The assumptions used to calculate these are clearly stated and based on BAIF’s experience. It would be interesting to compare these projections with data on actual profitability of Subabul in different parts of India if these are available. The proceedings contain numerous other articles on technical aspects of wastelands afforestation.
