Gamser, M. S. 1986. PhD thesis, University of Sussex.

The main argument of this PhD thesis was that lack of interaction between technology developers and technology users was an important constraint to the adoption of new technologies in any given situation. The author illustrated his argument with a case study of the Sudan Renewable Energy Project (SREP), a venture to develop improved charcoal production, improved charcoal stoves and new approaches to forest management. SREP was successful in the author's opinion because user participation was included in the original project design and upheld throughout. Both researchers and technology users benefited from this non-linear approach to innovation.

Chapter 8 on 'Innovation and forest energy in Sudan' has been included on the website.
