Making voluntary carbon markets work for the poor: the case of forestry offsets

Research aiming to identify ways in which the voluntary carbon markets might be made more beneficial for the poor. Specific research themes include:
  • Identifying the opportunities and constraints that the market presents to the poor, by comparison with markets under the Kyoto Protocol mechanisms;
  • Determining appropriate institutional arrangements for carbon offset projects and
  • A comparative study of emerging greenhouse gas standards and their implications for the poor.
